Photographing Emersons gymnastics class can prove to be a bit difficult due to the very thick and smudgy window that separates the moms from their babies. So today – I figured what the heck… I knew that these days there are a million of us momtogs that want to get in that room. So – I went to the lady at the front and said in a very proud voice.. “I am a Documentary Journalist-“… I even utter something about having a blog (like that would convince her even more). I continue asking ” Would you mind if I sat in there and shot the class”? She smiles and said as long as the other moms don’t mind and that I don’t use a flash – I could sit on the bench. I asked each mom… hoping that they would be ok with it… and with a smile they all nodded ok. SOOOO – today – I got to go to the other side of the glass. I wasn’t sure what I could capture from the bench… I shot from the hip and did my best not to distract the class … For being stuck on the sidelines – I love that I captured my girl and a couple of other girls – learning to flip, fly and balance and I was quickly reminded of the saying I heard often growing up…”It is an automatic NO – if you don’t even ask”.
Jen - I love them all!!!! So cute!!! My favorites of Lyla are the upside down, her sticking her tongue out at you, and the cartwheel. Love all of them of Em’s. I am so glad they get to enjoy this class together. I hope you share this with all the other moms from class.
