I don’t know about you – but when my husband and I plan a vacation it sounds a little like this ” Where do you want to go”… “I don’t know, where do you want to go” …. “I don’t know, where do you want to go” .. and the vicious cycle begins. So this Christmas I said ” All I want for Christmas is for you to plan a trip – with only one Pre-requisite being…. WE won’t be lying by a pool sipping Margaritas” – Phone call began swirling between him and my sister as they both tried to plan a trip “Liz Worthy” – Apparently they find me a little high maintenance. Which I totally don’t think I am … ok – Maybe I am a little. I just like what I like – is there anything wrong with that. Once they decided on the plan… they ran it by me… a trip to Belize OR a an RV trip up the West Coast. If you know me – you know how badly I have been wanting to do an RV trip. I think 5 years ago – Hayden even bought me the Lego RV for Christmas. I LOVE our road trips – they have been such an enormous part of our family vacations. So it is a no-brainer that an RV trip would be a dream come true for all of us. As the days grew closer we all started the weather dance. We would switch between weather apps – all relying on the one that promised it wasn’t going to rain. 3 days before we flew out we had to make the unfortunate call of canceling the RV trip due to the winter storm hitting the coast. Quickly we started coming up with our Plan B… a Plan that really had no plan – except lets hit the road and instead of chasing the light – we decided to run away from the rain. This trip has become – hands down the best vacation that we have ever had. I think the lack of plans allowed us to just go with the flow- we lucked out with great Snow and Incredible place in Tahoe and hit up Big Sur and Monterey where the weather decided to clear up – as if they knew we were coming. Off we went to beaches that take your breath away and hikes that challenged us all to let go and embrace the wilderness that led us up to the most incredible waterfall. We landed in San Fran for the last leg of the trip – and lets be real – It’s supposed to be a little gloomy in San Francisco- so the weather didn’t dampen our spirits if anything it was welcomed as we hopped on the boat to Alcatraz – where it seems to me the gloomier the better when visiting the floating jailhouse.
We ended our trip with a quick visit to The Golden Gate Bridge – where mom forced the kids to “Hug it out” and say nice things to each other – because that is what moms do when kids fight.
As we drove to the airport – I told Dan it will be impossible to beat this trip. The time we spent with my Sister and her husband was incredible. It filled my need for adventure and then some. It made me excited for my kids to get older as I envisioned many more adventures in our future that will include my Nephew Justin ( who is kinda AWESOME … even if you don’t hear about him as much) – and my Niece Kaytlin…( and probably her amazing boyfriend Jordan – since we love him like family).
In the end – Their story is my story… BUT ohhhh so much better.
** Sidetone: I am trying to get in the frame but man – I really need to just give one tip to the picture taker … Please don’t cut off our feet.
** Second Sidenot: I do not document my children tears that are brought on my pain.. I do document the ones that are infused by drama. However; they are captured while I am talking them off the ledge of drama – while I shoot from the hip. (I feel the need to say this … because we all hate being judged – even if most of the time there is nothing we can do about it.)
a few snaps with my RX100 point and shoot.
