Wyoming – First stop – Park Cities, Utah

So here I am blogging our Wyoming trip – WAY earlier then I ever thought I would . I had a few people reach out and ask us about the details of our trip and if I had any insider tips. I have decided to break up the blog into different segments – in this one I am sharing what equipment I brought with me. The second Wyoming was picked – we went into planning mode. We decided to fly into Salt Lake City – because it was significantly cheaper to fly there then flying into Wyoming.  We wanted to put our money more into the trip and not more into the flight to get to the trip.  Here are the Camera Details for anyone who is a photographer.
When I was trying to decide what I wanted to bring with me on this trip from a photography standpoint – I knew the following things:
1.) I wanted to story- tell and show the magnitude of the landscape – 20 mm 1. 4 and 16 mm Fisheye
2.) I wanted to be able to zoom in far if I need to – and then go wide and storytell in an instant – which meant I needed a zoom. I had the 24 -70 ( not enough zoom). 24-105 mm ( not enough zoom) or 70-200mm (not enough wide angle and too dang heavy)

What is a photographer to do

I rented a lens from www.borrowlenses.com of course!! I rented the 28-300 mm and had that on my camera when we were road tripping our way from Park City to Glacier National Park.
3.) Finally I Brought my Sony RX100 Point and Shoot – BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME!!!! It storytells like a beast and truth be told those tend to be my most favorite images! If you are only into Blurry Background portraits then this camera isn’t for you – but if you love the authenticity of capturing the reality of your everyday – then this camera is for you!

I also brought some lightweight lenses – 50 mm, fisheye and Lensbaby. Those are easily thrown into a bag without breaking the back.

We decided to spend 2 days of “down time” in Park City before we made our way to Wyoming- It was my 43rd birthday and I have always wanted to go to the Salt Flats…I mean from a photographers perspective – I have always loved the images I have seen from here. I still remember swooning over Angie Monsoon’s images from her session with Blue Lily Photography. Needless to say the Bonneville Salt Flats did not disappoint!!! It took about 1 1/2 hours to get their from Park City. You will want to make sure that you pull off on the East Side exit.. One thing to know is that the salt is pretty sticky – so wear durable clothes.  I also loved shooting there at High Noon as opposed to going in the evening – I mean there a not many places where  you can take advantage of standing on such an incredible Natural Reflector and NOT be layered down in Snow Gear. With that said… IT WAS HOT – so depending on the time of year – dress accordingly. Oh if you have a toddler.. make sure they go potty first – You know what they say about yellow snow – YEP same rule applies when it comes to Yellow Salt. I still remember my husbands face filled with relief  when he remembered we had her bathing suit in the car. Which meant 2 things needed to happen 1.) a bootie shot at The Salt Flats (Sorry Sutton) and 2.) Taking SuperWoman BACK to the Salt Flats for a couple more photos.

I had wanted to hire a photographer to get some family photos done at the Salt Flats – But in the end – NONE OF US… including me wanted to waste any time of our trip getting “perfect, pretty ” photos taken. Truth be told… that just isn’t our gig. I DID make sure that asked many random people to take our pictures. I set the camera and told them where to stand and they snapped the photo.

So without further adieu – Here are some photos from our stay in Park City.  I realize I have an obsession of certain moments from the trips that we take and it looks a little like this.
1.) Documenting the Trip to and from the Airport (see previous post)
2.) The very moment the kids see the hotel room for the first time and they jump on the beds with excitement
3.) Racing down the hallway to the elevator or to our room
4.) Forced sibling poses

Those are going to be something you will see a lot of from this trip and the Florida one – so you have been warned.
